Teeth-Whitening Home Remedies

If you notice that your teeth are starting to look discolored, then you may be thinking about whitening them. When you go down the oral hygiene section of most stores, you will notice there are many different types and brands of teeth-whitening products for you to choose from. With all of this selection, it can be hard for you to know which one will work the best for your needs.

If you decide not to go with over-the-counter products, then you'll be glad to know that there are many home remedies that can help you to achieve a whiter smile, and this can simplify the whitening process for you. Here are just two of the ways you can whiten your teeth on your own:

1. Use baking soda

Baking soda can be great for whitening your teeth. However, you do need to understand that you aren't going to see results overnight, but rather after you have continued to follow the baking soda regimen on a regular basis. An added benefit to using baking soda is that it will also help to scrub away plaque, which can lead to gum disease. However, baking soda does not contain fluoride, which is what keeps cavities at bay, so be sure to use regular toothpaste in between baking soda brushes.

To use baking soda as a teeth whitener, you will mix a small amount of baking soda with water until you create a smooth paste. Keep adding a small amount of water at a time and stirring the mixture until it is no longer gritty. If there is still a grittiness to it then it will be too rough on your teeth and can scratch the surfaces of them. Once you achieve a smooth mixture, use it to brush your teeth and let it stay on them for about a minute. Rinse your mouth and you are done.

2. Try coconut oil

You can also use coconut oil in order to achieve a whiter smile for yourself. This method is extremely easy, though it is time consuming.

Use the coconut oil before you brush your teeth in the morning. In order to whiten your teeth with the coconut oil, you will take about a half a tablespoon of the coconut oil and put it in your mouth. Move the oil all around in your mouth, focusing on getting it on all the surfaces of your teeth. Continue with this process for about ten minutes. Spit it out and repeat the process one more time. Then, rinse your mouth out with some water and brush your teeth as you normally do.
